BATON ROGUE, La. -- Kentucky freshman DeMarcus Cousins recorded his sixth consecutive double-double and the No. 3 Wildcats used a freakish run to close the first half on their way to an 81-55 win Saturday at LSU.

Cousins scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in only 20 minutes of action, proving an insurmountable mismatch for the Tigers. Kentucky (22-1, 7-1 SEC) also got 16 points from Patrick Patterson as it outscored LSU 34-14 in the paint and won the rebounding battle 53-31.

"He's come as far and as fast as any player I've ever coached," UK coach John Calipari said of Cousins. "On the court, his basketball, his free-throw shooting, his emotions."

The Wildcats opened the game sluggish, falling behind 6-1 at the 15:31 mark, but scored 41 of the next 49 points to take a 42-14 lead into the half.

"We stunk," Calipari said of the game's opening minutes. "We got some guys out of the game and said, if you're not going to play with any kind of intensity, you're not playing. And then those guys went back in and played really well from that point on."

LSU (9-14, 0-9 SEC) shot 19 percent in the first half and finished at 27 percent (21 of 66) for the game. Bo Spencer led the Tigers with a game-high 25 points, but 19 came in the second half long after the outcome had been determined.

Eric Bledsoe gave the Cats a third scorer in double-figures, adding 10 points. The freshman guard also had four rebounds and four steals.

Kentucky returns to action Tuesday at Rupp Arena against Alabama. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET for the ESPNU broadcast.
